Revolution of American Independence
At times of hardship, states would select a representative to address issues in the Continental Congress

At the 2nd Continental Congress, the main issue was declaring independence from Britain

Reasons why independence was wanted:
-unfair taxes were imposed, such as the Sugar Act and the Townshend Acts

-Britain controlled trade, which restricted who colonists were able to trade with

-taxation without representation in Parliament, who did not have the best interests of the colonists and the problems they had in mind

-However, some did not want independence, some still sought out peace between Britain and the states, such as Dickinson, a representative

-Olive Branch Petition was sent, asking for compromise to meet their needs, and was rejected by King George III

-New resolves were sought, and Jefferson was asked to create the Declaration of Independence to part from Birtain
